Town centres and local commercial districts are both economic and social hubs for local communities. Despite their historic role as the “heart” of many communities, they are under increasing pressures, such as growing competition from e-commerce, declining foot traffic, and rising rent and energy costs. Join this webinar to hear how local communities in Japan and the UK have come up with innovative solutions to revitalise their town centres and where there might be ground for mutual learning. Register now Get involved with the Forum Do you have a best practice to share on revitalising town centres? Participate in a survey to help us map policies and practices supporting the revitalisation of town and city centres. The OECD Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs, Regions and Cities is partnering with the European Commission (DG GROW) to explore how small retailers are navigating the digital and green transition. We are conducting a survey to map policies that support revitalisation and modernisation of small retailers. This mapping will inform the wider project and help us identify good practices contributing to the attractiveness of town and city centres. Access the survey here The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games: Boosting local jobs and businesses through a social charter The Paris 2024 Social Charter represents a strong commitment to promoting long-term social, economic, and environmental objectives. The charter promotes local businesses, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and actors in the social and solidarity economy, as well as promoting employment opportunities for hard-to-reach groups, including young people, people with disabilities, people in long-term unemployment and senior citizens.
